Drone manufacturer DJI is updating its Geospatial Environment Online (GEO) geofencing system to bring more safety features to its drone operators. The latest version of its geofencing technology is available in the most recent release of its DJI GO app for Phantom and Inspire aerial platforms.

‘safety is DJI’s top priority, which is why we first introduced geofencing technology three years ago and have been steadily refining the industry’s best technology to enhance aviation safety,” said Brendan Schulman, DJI’s vice president of policy and legal affairs, who led the development of the new system. “Drone pilots want to fly safely, and our GEO system helps DJI customers fly responsibly while also enabling the full capabilities of remotely piloted aircraft.”

GEO is designed to provide operators with information relating to airports, sensitive locations and temporary flight restrictions to help them safely perform their operations. Improvements include an update to the company’s No-Fly Zone technology with permanent restrictions, as well as the ability to unlock restricted areas with permission.

In addition, the system will prevent flights in certain areas that raise national security concerns, such as around airports and in Washington, D.C.

The geofencing technology is available for Android and iOS, and it works with all Inspire models as well as the Phantom 4, Phantom 3 Professional, and Phantom 3 Advanced models.
