AirMap is announcing a US$15 million series A round of funding to advance its drone tools, promote air safety, and accelerate the use of drones in everyday life. AirMap provides services that aim to help drone operators see where they can and can”T fly.
‘soon, people will be benefiting from drone-enabled services in their everyday lives, often without realizing it,” wrote Ben Marcus, CEO of AirMap, in a blog post. “AirMap is enabling this future by building the necessary infrastructure to support safe, efficient, orderly, reliable and sustainable high-frequency drone operations in low-altitude airspace.”
AirMap will use the series A funding to speed up the development of its airspace-management system for drones. AirMap’s solutions are designed to provide drone operators with real-time information about the airspace. More recently, the company announced the launch of its Digital Notice and Awareness System, which enables operators to inform airports about their location and flights, and to comply with Section 336 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012.
Developers can also take advantage of AirMap’s tools with the company’s SDK, API and global dataset.
The round of funding was led by General Catalyst Partners, and included Social Capital, TenOneTen Ventures, Bullpen Capital and the Pritzker Group.
“People will soon be benefiting from drone-enabled services in their everyday lives, often without even realizing it,” said Hemant Taneja of General Catalyst Partners and new AirMap board of directors member. “AirMap is building the trusted infrastructure to support the mainstream drone use cases that we will all soon take for granted.”
